Introduction:
9-fluorenylmethanol is prone to single-molecule elimination reaction under the condition of strong alkali, and loses one molecule of water to generate 9- methylene (dibenzofulvene). 9-Methylene fluorene easily polymerizes to form an insoluble, resinous polymer. The polymer encapsulates 9-fluorene methanol, which is not easy to separate from 9-fluorenylmethanol. In addition, 9-fluorenylmethanol can also undergo a bimolecular elimination reaction under alkaline conditions, losing one molecule of water to produce 9- (fluorenyl-9-methylene)-9-hydroxymethylfluorene.
