Introduction:
Methylnaphthalene is a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH). It is present in cigarette smoke, wood smoke, tar, asphalt, and at some hazardous waste sites. Methylnaphthalene is a brown liquid with a naphthalene-like odor that evaporates with the vapors, flammable, insoluble in water and soluble in ether and ethanol.
Preparation:
Using vacuum distillation and azeotropic distillation method can be obtained purity of more than 99% of methylnaphthalene products, product recovery rate of 55%.
Applicaton:
Used as surfactant, water reducer, dispersant, medicine and other organic synthesis of raw materials.It also can be used as raw material for medicine and surfactant. In addition, mesophase pitch can be prepared by HF / BF3 catalytic treatment of methylnaphthalene. Mesophase pitch is a good raw material for preparing carbon fiber.
