Preparation:
4,4'-(9-Fluorenylidene)bis(2-phenoxyethanol) is also called 9,9-Bis(4-(2-Hydroxyethoxy) phenyl) Fluorene. An new efficient method for the synthesis of 4,4'-(9-Fluorenylidene)bis(2-phenoxyethanol): By using concentrated sulfuric acid as catalyst and 3-mercaptopropionic acid as co-catalyst,phenoxyethanol for reagent and solvents. After drying,resulting residue was recryatallized from toluene to give pure products. The reaction proceeds smoothly in high yields(above 90%) and purity(above 99.7%) with shorter time and lower temperature.in addition, this method which used more cconomical catalyst(concentrated sulfuric acid) andco-catalyst(3-mercaptopropionic) and caused little environmental pollution, is suitable for industrial production.
